1. Are there any fees when requesting a dismissal on a citation?

Some dismissals do require an administrative fee.  Below is a list of cases that can be dismissed and their associated fees.

Fail to Update Name or Address on Driver’s License = $20

Expired Driver’s License = $20

Expired Motor Vehicle Registration = $20

Fail to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance) = no fee

2. Are there any deadlines or time limits to request a dismissal?

Expired Driver’s License - you must present proof of correction and pay the administration fee to the court within 20 working days of the violation

Fail to Update Name or Address on Driver’s License - you must present proof of correction and pay the fee to the court within 20 working days of the violation

Expired Motor Vehicle Registration - registration cannot be expired more than 60 days from violation date and proof must be presented and fee paid to the court within 20 working days of the violation

Fail to Maintain Financial Responsibility - either you or the vehicle must be covered on an active policy on the date and at the time of the violation.  Proof should be presented within 12 days of the violation.

3. Will the court accept a temporary Department of Public Safety (DPS) license as proof for dismissal?

The court will accept a DPS approved temporary license as proof for expired driver’s license so long as the temporary license has not expired.  

4. I have my insurance proof on an app on my phone, how do I present this proof?

You will need to request an insurance ID card from your agent.  Many offer this as an option online to print to your home printer.  Or you must provide a copy of the declarations page from your policy that covers the date of the violation.  We must attach a copy to your case file as proof and cannot use your app for this.

5. What proof do I need to provide for my expired motor vehicle registration citation?

You must provide the current registration receipt that your new sticker was attached to.  The license plate number must match what the officer listed on the citation. If you had to change plates, the old license plate number should still be listed on the receipt along with the new plate number.  The court will accept this so long as the old plate is still listed on the receipt.

6. How soon will I get a response to my online application?

A court clerk will respond to your request within one business day with the next steps in the process.
