A concrete batch plant is best defined as a central mix/wet concrete batch plant that combines stone, sand, cement, supplementary cementitious materials, and water to produce concrete for the project’s roadway, bridge, drainage, and pedestrian facilities. Put simply, it is an automated big mixing drum. Rock and sand are fed into the drum on conveyor; cement is gravity-fed into the drum; and water is piped into the drum. On occasion, additional liquid admixtures are added to assist with set time and/or environmental conditions. Similar to making a cake, all of the ingredients are mixed, and then poured into either a mixer truck or a dump truck. In addition, the concrete batch plant will have its own built-in dust filtration system to capture dust particles as concrete is mixed to prevent leaving the plant site.
