Amid a full day of fun and festivities to celebrate the grand opening of our reimagined Downtown Square, an extra-special hour of pageantry will formally establish Garland’s newest asset.
At 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, the Square will be dedicated and the City’s history celebrated with music, poetry and a ribbon-cutting. State arts officials will take the stage in the heart of Garland’s Bankhead Cultural Arts District to welcome the district into Texas’ statewide Cultural Districts Program.
Mayor Scott LeMay will note the role transportation has played in Downtown Garland, from establishing the Square as a public gathering space 124 years ago to Main Street being part of the nation’s second coast-to-coast roadway, to Dallas Area Rapid Transit’s 40-year anniversary.
Other City officials will talk about the project itself – the construction, light fixtures, seating and landscaping. And we’ll also be sure to include the project among a growing list of Downtown Garland businesses and amenities, including a new Visitor Center and 14 blocks of streetscapes improvements.
