Congratulations, Garland. You have the second-best Census 2020 self-response rate among large cities in Texas.
As of Sept. 24, 69.1% of Garland’s residents have completed the task of self-responding. That’s better than the state rate of 62.0%, the Dallas County rate of 63.0% and better than the county’s other large cities, Dallas, Grand Prairie and Irving.
With six days still left until the Sept. 30 deadline, members of the City's Complete Count Committee continue to ask residents to participate. Second among large cities is not good enough for Garland, said committee leader Jennifer Nguyen. She is urging "to get our last push to be the first and nothing but the best."
There’s a $675 billion prize for being counted. That’s how much federal money is distributed each year based on the census, a count of residents that is required in the Constitution. Garland’s representation in state and federal government is also based on its census count.
If you haven’t yet participated, you have until Sept. 30. Visit 2020census.gov. It’s easy to participate. There are only nine questions.
